Looking for help with digital camera sensor cleaning

Dale Newbury's picture

Well, I finally did it. I got gunk (technical term) on my cameras sensor. Not just dust but something that no amount of blowing will dislodge.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the materials to clean the sensor on a Nikon D70s? I have found all sorts of support on how to clean, what I need to know is where to buy the proper material. I have only been to the Henry's near my place, and all they have is a "one fits all" product by VisibleDust. The problem is that the model of Nikon I have "uses the Sony sensor" which supposedly takes a special fluid. Eclipse 2 was recommended at one web site.

Looking for help with digital camera sensor cleaning

Many thanks, Glenn, Alex,

I will, likely, be contacting Vistek. I can't seem to find the Eclipse product locally.

Instructions might be a bit dated.....

Instructions might be a bit dated, but I still use this technique to clean my Fuji S2:

I bought the mini-spatula from Canadian Tire, and got the Eclipse and PEC Pads from Vistek.

Cleaning a D70

I don't have a Nikon (I use Canon) but I did find this site

http://www.bythom.com/cleaning.htm

through Google, which goes into a fair bit of detail about cleaning Nikon sensors. If you don't find something suitable at Bent's or at BJ Photo, I would try Vistek in Toronto - they will be happy to send stuff to you via Canada Post, and shipping is not that expensive. I buy paper and film that way quite frequently.
